A man aged in his 60s has died in hospital after he was rescued from a fire at a bungalow in Oxfordshire.

Fire crews also saved a woman when they were called to the blaze in Lavender Close, Banbury, at about 0330 GMT.

Rescuers found the man in a front bedroom and the woman was saved from the back of the house along with a number of pets.

The woman is in a serious but stable condition. The fire is not thought to be suspicious.

Group manager Kerry Blair said: "Our crews worked very quickly to rescue the two people.

"We even had firefighters scaling a back wall to get access.

"The fire occurred the morning after bonfire night but there is nothing to suggest this was anything other than accidental."
