Armed pair break into Oxfordshire pub

Armed burglars forced their way into an Oxford pub, demanded money from staff and escaped with about £16,000 in cash.

Two men, both white and in their 40s, broke into the Hobgoblin, Cowley Road, at about 2315 BST on Sunday.

They had a handgun and a claw hammer and were wearing dark clothing, with their faces covered.

One of the offenders wore white trainers and was carrying an olive-coloured bag. Thames Valley Police have appealed for witnesses.

Det Con Nick Hills said: "The Cowley Road would have been fairly busy at this time of night. I appeal to anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously near to the pub just after closing time to contact police."
