Challenge to Oxford School academy plan fails

An attempt to block plans to turn Oxford School into an academy has failed.

A group of councillors wanted Oxfordshire County Council to review its plan to shut the current school, on Glanville Road, and reopen it as an independently run academy.

Critics of the idea said other options had not been properly considered.

A scrutiny committee said the council's decision to press ahead with academy status should stand.
