A man found dead at a house in Nottinghamshire was responsible for shooting a woman and himself, according to police.

Two children, who were not injured, were also discovered at the home in Galway Road, Bircotes, near Doncaster, shortly before 01:00 GMT on Friday.

The woman, 33, who suffered suspected shotgun injuries, is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the 37-year-old man.

Det Ch Insp Mel Bowden said: "We are satisfied that the injured female was a victim in this incident.

"Until a post-mortem examination is carried out next week we will not be in a position to formally identify the deceased but we believe he was the offender in this case and will not be looking for any further suspects."
