In Pictures: Nottingham shop windows decorated for Christmas
The 12 Windows of Christmas Cheer scheme is part of an initiative between Nottingham City Council and the Nottingham BID to brighten up empty shops. Illustrator Rikki Marr took inspiration from his own children and their wish lists for this cartoon display in Lister Gate.
This display in Bridlesmith Walk includes 12 varieties of tree. John Macdonald from bio-urban designers, Splant said: "At a time when people buy Christmas trees we wanted people to think about them in a different way and consider buying a fruit or nut tree."
Designer Debbie Bryan used lace from her archive collections for the display in Flying Horse Walk. She said: "These designs are not just about making the windows look pretty but adds value to the businesses around them as well. It's a win win for everybody."
Robert Howie Smith created a wolfman's Christmas lair for a shop window in Carrington Street. The council hopes the festive displays will attract more people into the city centre for shopping and entertainment.
Many designers have created their scene around the products they offer. Philip Watts used lights to portray snowflakes and bespoke handles for angels in flight.
Fashion designer Susi Henson who has made corsets for Dita Von Teese and Girls Aloud used some of her designs for the display in The Exchange. She said: "It is about showcasing the city and filling up some of the empty shop windows by getting really creative."
Giftware designers Elefair have shown the contrast of indoor and outdoor with a cosy tea party and an enchanted forest scene for their display in Pelham Street.
Light sculptor Adam Spinos has used up three windows in Carlton Street, Hockley with his arty installation. Visitors to the city centre have been asked to vote for their favourite display to win £500. The designer of the winning window will also pick up £1,000.
