Nottinghamshire County council cuts officer leaves early

A manager appointed to oversee more than £150m of cuts in Nottinghamshire has left after just over a year.

Former DHL managing director Greg Michael joined the county council as Improvement Director on a £110,000-a-year three-year contract in 2010.

The move was criticised at the time by unions who said the money could be better spent elsewhere.

The council said Mr Michael, who has been head hunted by a private firm, had put an effective savings plan in place.

A spokesman said £87m of savings were already in place and the authority was on course to meet its three-year target
