Prison fugitive jailed over store raids
An escaped prisoner has been jailed following raids on shops in Nottingham and Leicestershire.
Ryan Coombes, 27, of no fixed address, admitted robbery, attempted robbery, possessing a firearm and escaping from prison.
Coombes was given an indefinite jail sentence at Nottingham Crown Court for public protection and will serve at least 26 months.
The raids were carried out last March in Beeston and Coalville.
Coombes was arrested with Rennforde Fletcher, 38, in Wollaton, Nottingham, when a member of the public became suspicious of their parked car.
The vehicle contained several items including an air pistol, a knife, a balaclava and lump hammer.
Police found Coombes had escaped from prison while serving a minimum of three years for armed robbery.
Fletcher, of Whittier Road, Nottingham, was jailed for 18 months for his part in the raid at a convenience store in Beeston.
The men had attacked a member of staff and made off with the till.
Five days later, Coombes attempted to rob a store in Standard Hill, Coalville, Leicestershire, but was chased from the premises.
The arrests came a few days later.
