Homes evacuated after repair shop fire in Retford

More than 20 properties have been evacuated after a fire at a motorcycle repair shop in Nottinghamshire.

Roads in the area of Grove Lane in Retford were closed after the fire as a precaution because acetylene canisters were located inside the shop.

Police have placed a 200m cordon around the area which is expected to remain in place until noon on Friday.

No-one was injured in the fire which started at 1015 GMT, a Nottinghamshire police spokesman said.

Residents were staying either with family or friends, or at a rest centre in the Grove Street Methodist Church.

Canalside footpaths in the area were also closed.
