Police investigating the death of an international student in Nottingham say they are confident the circumstances were not suspicious.

Miron Filipovic, 21, from Groningen in the Netherlands, arrived in Nottingham in September to study business at Nottingham Trent University.

Officers discovered the body on Wednesday night in a stretch of water off London Road.

A police spokesperson said a file was being prepared for the coroner.

Parents' grief

Mr Filipovic was on an international exchange and was due to return to the Netherlands in February next year. He was last seen by friends at a party on Saturday night.

Police said Mr Filipovic had left his student accommodation in Radford to go to a friend's birthday party in halls of residence on Castle Gate in Nottingham city centre.

His parents arrived in Nottingham on Wednesday from the Netherlands to assist police with finding their son.

They were said to be distraught by his death and are being supported by a police family liaison officer and a chaplain from Nottingham Trent University.
