A body has been found in Brazil, close to where a Nottingham teenager disappeared while swimming in the sea.

Elliot Deslandes, 14, from Arnold, was on holiday with family friends in Ilha Grande, an island near Rio de Janeiro when he went missing on 2 November.

His family flew out to the area and a search to find him was extended.

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed a body had been found and said Brazilian authorities were making further inquiries.

A spokesman for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office said: "We are aware of the reports of a body being found.

"We continue to provide consular assistance to the family."

It had been reported that the group were struck by a powerful wave and Elliot did not make it back to shore.
