Jewellery worth tens of thousands of pounds has been stolen after thieves smashed their way through the back wall of a Nottingham shop.

John Rose Jewellers, in Maypole Yard, off Clumber Street, was broken into during the early hours of Tuesday.

Police said the offenders climbed a gate into the yard of the Coach and Horses pub to gain access to the wall.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area between 0500 and 0600 GMT has been asked to contact police.

Liz Roye of John Rose Jewellers said: "We think (the thief) used a hammer and chisel and chiselled his way through the wall. I think it took him two to three hours to do it, and he just climbed through the hole."
