Man arrested after assault in Nottingham


A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after another man was seriously injured in an attack in Nottingham city centre.

Police said the 58-year-old victim was punched and knocked to the ground in the Old Market Square at about 0015 BST on Sunday.

He had emergency surgery for a head injury at the Queen's Medical Centre and remains in a critical condition.

A 20-year-old man from Nottingham was arrested over the attack.

The area was cordoned off, including part of the tram line which affected tram services.
