Five men have been arrested in connection with a robbery at a Co-op store in a Nottingham suburb.

Masked men entered the shop on Hilton Crescent in West Bridgford at about 2145 BST on Tuesday.

They threatened staff and customers and stole a quantity of cash before escaping.

A police spokesperson said the men were arrested following a pursuit of a Transit van by police patrol cars in the area.

Officers injured

Police followed the vehicle, which reversed into them before driving off at speed.

Further officers joined the pursuit, and the van rammed into two more police vehicles before it was finally stopped on Trent Bridge.

Four men in the van were arrested, while a fifth man was arrested in Victoria Embankment after running away from the vehicle.

All five remain in custody and are being questioned by detectives.

Two officers suffered minor whiplash injuries as a result of the collision with the van.
