A man killed in a police chase on the M1 near Northampton last month has been identified.

Liam Mealing was run over when he left a lorry that was being followed by officers after being reported as stolen.

The 24-year old, of Beeston, Leeds, was struck by another lorry as he ran from the southbound to the northbound carriageway.

It happened near junction 16 at 03:25 GMT on 2 December.

A 20-year-old man from Leeds was arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and remains on bail.

Northamptonshire Police said it referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which decided not to pursue the matter.

"A local investigation is taking place and a report is being prepared for HM Coroner," a police spokeswoman said.
