A man has denied impersonating a police officer by allegedly driving a car with flashing blue lights and a siren.

Michael Allen, from Northampton, is charged with carrying out an act suggesting he was a constable and stealing a baton, the town's magistrates' court heard.

It is also alleged the mocked-up car was not insured.

The 35-year-old, of Axe Head Road, Briar Hill, was bailed and will stand trial in Wellingborough on 30 October.

The alleged offences happened in May.
