Northampton's Jason Watts jailed for girl's abduction and rape

A man has been jailed for life for the abduction and rape of a girl, 10.

Jason Watts, 32, of Hampton Street, Northampton, admitted the charges at the town's crown court, and was told he must serve a minimum of seven years and two months.

The girl was missing for about 45 minutes on 29 August, before being found in Spring Boroughs, Northampton.

Police said had the girl not been found, the potential outcome "does not bear thinking about".

Watts, who will be subject to licence for life, was arrested on the day of the rape, police said.

Speaking after the case, Det Insp Ally White said: "The sentencing reflects the horrific and abhorrent nature of this extremely unusual crime.

"I would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search which resulted in the child being found quickly."
