Wellingborough temple community grows to 3,000 families
Plans to expand Northamptonshire's only Hindu temple will need funds from the local community, it has been claimed.
Built 32 years ago to cater for 200 families, there are now more than 3,000 families using the complex.
The expansion plans include more space for worship, new social facilities and improved disabled access.
"Once we get money coming in we can begin the project," Jitendra Tailor, from the Wellingborough District Hindu Association, said.
"We received outline planning permission three months ago to create improved facilities," he said.
"We want a place where the older generation can meet during the day to socialise, read newspapers and worship."
Mr Tailor added: "When we first started building the temple 32 years ago we had no money but when the foundations were laid the community responded with donations.
