A fire which destroyed a Northamptonshire football team's old clubhouse was started deliberately.

Up to 20 firefighters tackled the blaze in the derelict building at the old Rothwell Town FC ground on Cecil Street on the evening of 24 July.

Police said they were appealing for witnesses as part of their arson investigation.

The fire service said it had been unable to complete its investigation as the building was unsafe.

The football club left the ground at the end of the 2011/12 season after going into administration and has not played since.

The clubhouse has been derelict since then.

The fire service said the building would have to be demolished.
