Wellingborough £115m employment park 'promises 2,500 jobs'

Outline planning permission has been granted for a £115m business park that could bring 2,500 jobs to a Northamptonshire town, it is claimed.

Wellingborough Council's planning committee has approved the Appleby Lodge project just off Sywell Road.

The jobs will range from warehouse staff, IT positions, customer services and office managers, councillors heard.

The project has attracted opposition from some residents in villages near the site concerned about traffic.

Councillors heard from 14 residents and the Chamber of Commerce before making their decision, a spokesperson said.

Developers Prologis must now submit a detailed planning application which includes screening the development from villages and measures to mitigate noise and traffic.

Work on the first phase of the development could start next year, with the whole project completed within the next five to 10 years, councillors were told.
