Polls close in Corby by-election and Northamptonshire PCC elections

The polls have closed in the Corby by-election and the election for the first police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Northamptonshire.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation in August of sitting Conservative MP Louise Mensch.

PCCs will replace police authorities currently in charge of 41 forces in England and Wales.

They will be responsible for setting force priorities, overseeing its budget and hiring the chief constable.

There are 14 candidates in the Corby by-election and five candidates in the election for Northamptonshire PCC.

The results will be announced on Friday.
