Work has started on a £500,000 independent cinema in the centre of Northampton.

The 90-seat movie venue, in Albion Place, is to be run by the Royal and Derngate theatre and independent screen operator Cityscreen.

It will show art-house, classic and world films and documentaries and is set to open in the summer of 2013.

The development is a part of Northampton Alive, a council initiative promoting the town's regeneration.
