Cosworth sale: Interest 'better than expected'

Northampton-based engineering firm Cosworth said it has had a "better than expected" response from investors interested in buying the business.

Cosworth, which also has a site in Cambridge, makes products for the automotive, aerospace and defence markets.

The company was put up for sale two weeks ago.

The firm said a recent announcement that jobs were under threat was unconnected to the sale.

'Engineering innovator'

The company has not said how many positions were under threat.

Workers approached by BBC Northampton outside the plant, on St James Mill Road, on Tuesday confirmed they were in the process of talks about job losses but did not want to comment further.

In a statement about the response to the sale, a spokesman said: "Interest in the sale of Cosworth has been better than anticipated.

"The company is recognised for its heritage as well as for its current reputation as an engineering innovator."

The firm will take its time to find a buyer who would help to gain more long-term contracts, the spokesman added.

The firm received the Manufacturer of the Year Award in November last year.
