County cuts 400 jobs and police budgets to save £28m

Northamptonshire County Council plans to cut 400 jobs and reduce police budgets to save £28m next year.

Council tax is to be frozen but funding for Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) and areas like the toy library and 10 book libraries will be cut.

The council announced a four-year plan last year to cut £105m from budgets.

"We've not got anything in reserve so have to decide priorities," the Conservative-run council leader Jim Harker said.

Northamptonshire Police recently announced that it had enough funds to defer cuts to PCSOs for a year.
