A fire that tore through a Polish shop in Northamptonshire may have been racially motivated, police have said.

The Best Pol Delicatessen on Barrack Road, Northampton, was gutted by a blaze at 01:00 GMT.

Police said they were treating the fire as suspicious and had not ruled out a racially motivated attack.

The fire follows an arson attack on the shop in December which severely damaged the building.

A police spokesperson said: "The cause is being treated as suspicious.

"Officers are retaining an open mind as to whether these incidents may be racially motivated but at present they are not being treated as such."

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
