Work starts on £400,000 One Stop Shop in Northampton

Work has started on a £400,000 scheme to redevelop and improve a One Stop Shop at Northampton's Guildhall to provide a range of local services.

As well as providing Northampton Borough Council service advice, it will also include Citizen's Advice Bureau and a place to report crime.

People will also be able to get advice on fire prevention and support to stop smoking and teenage parent advice.

The work on the new One Stop Shop is due to finish by the end of March.

The £400,000 transformation project has been made possible by £260,000 funding from the Northamptonshire Improvement and Efficiency Partnership.

Brian Markham, the council's Cabinet member for customer services, said: "An increasing number of people rely on council services at a time of crisis or when they are vulnerable, whilst others just require help and advice of where to go and who to contact.

"Being able to bring all these different services offering support to the most vulnerable people in one place is really important."
