A new county council chief executive is to be appointed in Northamptonshire.

The full meeting of the council is being recommended to permanently appoint Dr Paul Blantern, interim chief executive since May, to the post.

His appointment has been recommended by an appointments committee made up of Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors.

Dr Blantern joined the council in 2008 and was appointed as corporate director for customer and community services.

The full council meets on 18 November.

Jim Harker, leader of the Conservative-controlled council, said: "Paul has demonstrated, at a time of great challenge to the public sector, his ability to perform the role of chief executive and lead our organisation.

"I'm delighted with the recommendation and the consistency it offers our workforce and partners."
