Lead roofing stolen from Northamptonshire church

Thieves have stolen lead from a church roof in Northamptonshire, causing it to leak.

The lead, which is used to seal joins against leaks, was taken from Holy Cross Church in Collingtree Road, Milton Malsor.

The offenders went into the church and took the metal between 1 November and 6 November.

Now the roof has started to leak and the church's wooden interior has become damaged, police said.

"Offences of this nature are most likely to occur during the evenings and nights, and we are asking that people are extra vigilant as the nights draw in," a police spokeswoman said.
