Daventry Netto depot to close in Asda buy-out

A supermarket chain's distribution centre in Northamptonshire is set to close during a £778m takeover by Asda.

Most Netto staff at Drayton Fields in Daventry will be taken on at other distribution centres nearby, Asda has said.

It must sell 47 of 193 stores owned by the Danish discount retailer in the UK before the Office of Fair Trading permits the buy-out.

Under the plan, only one of two distribution centres would be required.

Netto's Yorkshire depot is to stay open.

It is planned that the remaining Netto's stores will continue to trade under the Netto name but will come under the Asda brand by mid-2011.

Netto, currently owned by Dansk Supermarked, has operated in the UK since 1990.
