Police officer shot at in street in Wellingborough

A police officer has been shot at by a man in a street in Wellingborough.

Northamptonshire Police were called to a disturbance in Abbots Way at about 1130 BST and a man shot at one officer and a police vehicle.

Armed officers were deployed to the area and a 24-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody. No-one was injured the incident.

The road remains closed to allow officers to carry out forensic investigations.

Witness appeal

Ch Supt George Shipman, of Northamptonshire Police, said: "We believe this is an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

"The road has been closed to allow officers to conduct forensic investigations.

"Work is also being carried out to establish what type of weapon was used by the man.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact the police."
