Plan for 800 Northampton homes wins approval

A scheme to build 800 homes on a brownfield site in Northampton has been given the go-ahead by a planning authority.

The plans for Ransome Road will "transform" the area, West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) said.

It is part of a wider plan for the waterside area in the town centre.

WNDC's planning committee, which approved the proposal, said the current site used to be industrial.

WNDC chief executive Peter Mawson said: "The Ransome Road scheme is an important part of a wider plan for the revival of Northampton town centre.

"It is a very complex project, and a lot of work is required to make this brownfield land suitable for development."
