New roles advertised by Northamptonshire council

At least eleven new jobs have been created at Northamptonshire County Council, which recently announced it is to cut £40m of services.

The council posted adverts for the children's services roles on its website on Monday.

The posts will form a new team with at least four of them offering a starting salary of £34,549.

In July the council announced spending on county council services is to be reduced by up to £40m this year.

The council has an overall budget of about £1bn and employs about 17,000 people. Cuts of £21m were revealed when the budget was published in February.

Cutting 15 posts

The government has told the council it had cut its grant aid by £9m.

A county council spokeswoman said: "The social care positions that have been advertised were created as a result of a restructure that will save the council £1m.

"This includes the deletion of 15 management positions and the creation of a single contact point for social care referrals to replace four existing ones.

"The changes will help us to provide more streamlined services to children and families and respond more quickly and effectively to referrals."
