Dozens of people were forced from their homes and a day centre in Norfolk due to a blaze in a garage containing gas cylinders.

Firefighters were called to Yare Close in Great Yarmouth at about 09:15 BST, and nearby residents were told to leave as a "precaution".

About 30 people at the day centre have been taken to the Marina leisure centre and a further 25 people are in a pub.

A borough council spokesman said people could be "several hours" at the Marina.

It is being used as a rest place for people from Centre 81, which is attended by those with disabilities.

"The evacuees will not be able to return to their properties until the fire service has deemed it safe," the council spokesman said.

A stretch of the River Bure, around the yacht station, was also closed to boats until 13:00 BST due to the fire, a Broads Authority spokesman confirmed.
