Bio-energy plant plans in Norfolk set for approval

Plans for a new power plant to generate energy from crops in a village north of Norwich are being recommended for approval by a council.

Future Biogas has applied for permission to build a biomass-fuelled energy plant on a greenfield site north of Blake's Abattoir in Felthorpe.

It will use the natural breakdown of locally grown maize and grass silage to generate biogas for the National Grid.

Broadland Council is being recommended to back the plan on Wednesday.

A report to the council's planning committee says Taverham Parish Council has objected to the plan on the grounds that it would lead to the over-development of the area and add extra traffic to local roads.

But Broadland District Council officers say the plans should be approved subject to conditions, including that no traffic for the plant go through the main street in Felthorpe.
