Two women have died in a fire in a cottage in a Norfolk village.

The fire broke out in the property in Lower Road, Holme Hale near Swaffham on Sunday afternoon.

Norfolk Police said they were called to the scene and have confirmed that two women died as a result of the fire. They have not yet been named.

The fire, believed to have started in the roof of the cottage, is not being treated as suspicious but an inquiry is under way into the cause.

The Rev Stephen Thorpe, Rector of Holme Hale, said it was a real tragedy.

"The impact of it affects a small community such as our very deeply.

"It's a real shock and naturally our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone concerned," he said.
