'Lengthy' A1067 road diversion set to continue

Bad weather has meant a "lengthy" road diversion in Norfolk will continue past the deadline, the council said.

Major work to repair the A1067 Norwich to Fakenham road, which was damaged during the winter, started on Monday 20 September.

Commuters have faced a 46-mile diversion, 21 miles longer than the usual route.

It was scheduled to re-open later but a council spokesman said bad weather put back the date until Thursday evening.

The spokesman said road material could not be laid in persistent rain that leads to standing water.

Previously the council has had to warn drivers not to ignore signs about the route closure.

Vehicles including supermarket delivery vans have been ignoring the diversion, and have been turning around in people's driveways, damaging verges and surfaces.
