Liverpool stab victim Stephen Essery 'a gentle soul'

The family of a man who was stabbed to death said he was a "loving, kind and gentle soul".

Stephen Essery, 51, of Walton, was found with a stab wound under his arm on Milman Road, Liverpool on Saturday.

In a statement the family said the dog lover and Everton fan was "a loving son, father, brother and uncle" and would "be very sadly missed".

Five people, including a 16-year-old from Walton, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 20-year-old man from Everton, a 41-year-old from Kirkdale, and a man, aged 46, and a woman, 37, both from Walton, have also been held.

The man from Kirkdale has since been released without charge. The other four remain in custody.
