The M53 motorway has been closed to traffic as part of an investigation into the disappearance of a woman.

Police said the closure related to Thursday's discovery of possible human remains, which the force has linked to the disappearance of Ellia Arathoon.

Both carriageways were closed between 14:30 and 15:00 GMT between Junctions 9 and 10, near Ellesmere Port. One northbound lane remains closed.

The 29-year-old was last seen in the Cheshire town on 28 October.

A charge of murder was heard against Craig Andrew Procter, 39, of Shephard Close in Ellesmere Court at West Cheshire Magistrates Court earlier.

He did not enter a plea and is due before Chester Crown Court on Monday.
