Man hit by car in racist attack near Liverpool park
A man was hit by a car and seriously assaulted in a racist attack in Liverpool on Sunday, police said.
The 34-year-old was playing football in Breckside Park in Anfield at about 17:00 BST when he was racially abused by a group of youths during a row.
The group left before returning with a number of men, who attacked him leaving him with facial and knee injuries.
Police said the offenders left the scene in a grey Vauxhall Astra and a blue transit van.
Det Sgt James May of Merseyside Police said: "This was a very serious and unprovoked attack on a man who had just been out enjoying a game of football with friends."
He added: "We are treating this as a racially-aggravated assault and believe the victim was also hit by a vehicle before the offenders made off from the area."
Police said the victim, who has left hospital, was in a serious but not life-threatening condition.
They are appealing for witnesses to the incident on Lower Breck Road.
