The death of a man whose body was discovered in a basement room of a Liverpool school is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

Andrew Gibson, 54, was found at Blue Coat School in Wavertree at about 12:10 BST on Wednesday after concerns were raised "for the safety of a colleague".

The coroner has been notified about the death of the school site manager, who was from Rainhill in St Helens.

Paying tribute, his wife Rebecca said he was "a true gentleman".

She described her husband, who was a keen cyclist, as "a father of two wonderful sons and a devoted husband".

Officers are working with the school to support pupils, parents and staff.

It is understood Mr Gibson's body was found in part of the school away from where pupils are taught.

The 300-year-old Blue Coat School on Church Road is a mixed grammar school for just under 1,000 students aged 11 to 18.
