PC Christopher Hopkins charged with sex offences

A Merseyside police officer has been charged with sex offences following an investigation by the police watchdog.

PC Christopher Hopkins, 40, has been charged with sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl, sexual assault on a woman aged over 16, and sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl.

He was also charged with inciting a teenage girl to engage in sexual activity and two counts of misconduct in public office.

He has been suspended from duty.

PC Hopkins has been bailed to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court on 24 September.

The investigation by Merseyside Police and the Independent Police Complaints Commission began in August last year following a complaint from a member of the public.
