Boy George, Kid Creole and Ian Broudie and the Lightning Seeds are among the first acts announced for this year's Liverpool International Music Festival.

Over 200 performers in total will be taking part in the 16-day event, running from 15 to 31 August.

Ian Broudie and the Lightning Seeds will be backed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on 22 August in Sefton Park.

Boy George will headline an event at St George's Hall the previous day.

Other artists due to take part in the event are Shaggy, Tim Burgess, Goldie, The Hoosiers, Lemar, the Farm, Marsha Ambrosius and John Power from Cast and the La's.

Collaboration is a key theme to this year's festival, with producer Steve Levine directing a concert featuring solo artists performing with other acts.

Sefton Park will host LIMF Summer Jam over the bank holiday weekend, featuring five stages of live music.

The It's Liverpool Stage, with BBC Radio Merseyside, will focus on new bands and solo artists from the city.

The majority of the events are free, but some of the concerts, including the Boy George event, are ticketed.
