Man charged with Speke woman Shirley Mercer's murder

A man has been charged with murdering a woman was found with multiple stab wounds at a house in Liverpool.

Shirley Mercer, 43, was discovered in the hallway of the property in Tewit Hall Close, Speke, on Friday.

She had suffered head and upper body injuries and was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, where she died.

Brian Hull, 52, of Tewit Hall Close, Speke, was remanded in custody at Liverpool Magistrates' Court.

He will reappear at the city's Crown Court on 14 April.
