Widnes loan shark and drug dealer spared jail

A loan shark and drug dealer who is thought to have made nearly £50,000 has been ordered to repay just £1.

Stephen Wharton, from Widnes, admitted two counts of illegal money lending and four of possessing a class C drug with intent to supply.

At Chester Crown Court he was given 11 months in jail suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to repay £48,000 under proceeds of crime legislation but this was changed to £1 after the court heard he had no assets left.

Wharton, 30, of Wavertree Avenue, also admitted an offence of owning a dog which caused injury and was ordered to keep it on a lead and muzzled.
