In pictures: Liverpool public sector strikes
People from across Liverpool turned out to support the public sector strikes over proposed cuts to pensions. An open topped bus normally used for sightseeing was crammed full of workers who had walked out.
People gathered in their thousands to join in the march which started at Pier Head. Above: members of the National Association of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers.
Members of the Unite union just before the march got under way at 11:30 GMT.
About 4,500 people formed picket lines outside many of the city's public buildings and government offices.
Chanting, singing and the sounds of air horns, vuvuzelas and whistles rang out as the procession made its way through the city streets.

Bobby Daniels, GMB member and chairman of the council's Joint Trade Unions committee, said: "This is going to reduce the pension of everyone who works in local authorities and it is not acceptable to us."
The march ended with a rally at St George's Plateau.
