Nine people have been charged with drugs supply offences after police raids carried out in Merseyside on Thursday resulted in 21 arrests.

A 17-year-old youth, five men and two women are due to appear at Wirral Magistrates' Court later.

A 47-year-old man from Birkenhead will appear there on 2 December.

Six men and one woman remain in police custody, while three other men and one woman have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Merseyside Police searched 21 properties during the early hours in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead, Bidston, Netherton and Aigburth.

They said they seized drugs, believed to be heroin and cocaine, with an estimated street value of £15,500.

About £10,000 in cash was recovered from a property in Birkenhead and another £8,500 from a house in Netherton.
