Driver who fell ill in car before St Helens crash named

A woman who fell ill as she was driving her car and collided with a bus and a car in St Helens has been named.

Eileen McDonald, 80, from Wigan, Greater Manchester, suffered a stroke at the wheel of her Suzuki car as she drove on Haresfinch Road on 26 January.

She was taken to hospital but later died. Her passenger, 85, suffered whiplash, and the driver of the other car, a Chrysler, broke her hand.

It is not thought anyone on the bus was injured.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact them.
