Robberies at Anfield's William Hill bookmakers 'linked'

An armed robber wielding a large kitchen knife targeted two bookmakers in Liverpool in the space of 30 minutes, police believe.

The first attack was at William Hill Bookmakers in Priory Road in Anfield at 0830 GMT. The offender threatened staff but they refused to hand money over so he fled empty handed.

The second was also at William Hill but in Utting Avenue, just minutes away. This time the robber made off with a purse.

He then escaped on a push bike.

Detectives have since recovered the knife he used which was dumped by a railway not far from the shop.

House-to-house inquiries have been conducted and officers are seeking to reassure other businesses in the area.

At this stage detectives believe the offences are linked and they are appealing for information.
