A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a solicitor whose body was found in the boot of a car in Cheshire.

Police discovered the body of Linda Bakewell, 45, in a car parked in Shavington Walk, Widnes, on 24 November.

Philip Martins, of Somerford Walk, Widnes, did not enter a plea when he appeared at Chester Crown Court.

The 47-year-old was remanded in custody until a hearing at the same court on 20 December.

Ms Bakewell, of Rainhill on Merseyside, was a director of Liverpool-based Armstrongs Solicitors.

A post-mortem investigation found she had been asphyxiated.
