Man's hand crushed in machinery at St Helens factory

A man has been taken to hospital after his hand got caught in machinery at a factory in St Helens, Merseyside.

Firefighters were called and had to use airbags and small tools to release his hand at Poppies Europe, in Cornwall Street, at about 0900 GMT.

It is unclear how his hand got trapped in the machinery at the paper tableware company.

He has been taken to Whiston Hospital for treatment. The fire service said he suffered severe injuries to his hand.
