Police inquiry into man's death at Southport hospital

Police are investigating the unexplained death of a 66-year-old man at a Merseyside hospital.

Officers were called to the Southport and Formby District General Hospital by staff just before 2245 GMT on Tuesday.

The 66-year-old man, who had been a patient at the Boothroyd Ward on Scarisbrick New Road, was taken to hospital with apparent head injuries.

The hospital and Mersey Care NHS Trust is helping police with their investigation

Police said the results of a post-mortem examination were being withheld pending further inquiries.
